The first game I ever developed to completion, and also the only one I've so far published myself - Wizard Thieves is a speed game designed for people who love classic old speed games like Egyptian Ratscrew and War. I used to play Egyptian Ratscrew like crazy with a friend of mine, but we always found the game went on too long and was missing a bit of variety, so I decided to change that.
I used the same basic concept found in the classic game, but updated it with several things like one-time-use abilities, special actions, and a way to be eliminated from the game, all of which helped make the game more exciting while also bringing the play time down to around 15 minutes.
At first, I just wanted to design Wizard Thieves as a more fun version of a classic for my friends and I to play, but soon enough it was clear that people enjoyed the game so much I was going to have to publish it. As a result, I learned the entire publishing process - everything from graphic design to Kickstarter to manufacturing - and as challenging as all that was to take on independently, it was one of the most rewarding projects I've ever been a part of!
